Mr Piper is the Kingfishers’ teacher.
Welcome Back Kingfishers!
This term our topic is ‘Animals Including Humans’. This half term we will have a focus on the ‘human side’ and study areas such as: the human diet, the importance of hydration, sleep and exercise on the body, the circulatory and respiratory systems and the impact of smoking and alcohol.
In Literacy, the year 5 pupils are in the process of completing autobiographies. Next, we will be looking at instructional writing before moving on to adverts and persuasive writing with links to George’s Marvelous medicine. The last week of half term will see us completing poetry.
Our Maths focus has been on ‘Place Value’. Already we have looked at the value of a digit within a number and have been looking at how to successfully round numbers up or down. We will continue place value for the next few days before learning how to successfully use the formal written methods for addition, subtraction, multiplication addition and subtraction. We will then finish the half term with some work on measurement and conversion.
This year our PE sessions will be on Wednesday and Friday afternoons with both sessions taken by Mr Piper.
Homework will start this week for both year 4 and 5 pupils. It should be sent out on Friday and to be returned on Wednesday. It will alternate with Maths and/or Literacy homework being set by Mrs Miles (year 4) and Mr Piper (year 5) one week and the second week topic homework set by Mr Piper for both year groups.
