Spaldwick Welcome Club
We start this month’s newsletter by wishing everyone a happy healthy new year.
23 members attended former member Maisie Zabell’s memorial service at Easton
Church on Wednesday, 11th January. Nina spoke eloquently about her aunt the many
happy years she and her family had spent with her
.
Many of you will remember Molly Bosworth who lived at Ellington and was a
founder member of the Club. She is now 91 and unfortunately has fallen and
broken her hip and is now in hospital. Lynette (434718) may have more details.
Last months meeting presentation was ‘A trip to India’ by Grahame and Joyce
Leach, which had us spellbound with the fantastic views of India after our
Indian style lunch.
It has been noticed that some members struggle to walk to the community room
after parking their vehicles due to age and infirmity. The matter was raised in
the meeting suggesting that a request be made to Rachel, the Head Teacher,
asking spaces could be made available at our monthly meeting to which she has
agreed to try and meet this request.
Our visit to the Ice Show looks to be a success. The coach picks up at Easton
5-30pm followed by Kimbolton (The White Horse) 5-40, Stow Longa 5-45, Spaldwick
5-50 and Ellington 5-55pm
.
Elizabeth has contributed to this newsletter by saying ‘It is with great regret
that the committee has had to made a decision to cancel the Club holiday to The
Lake District in 2012. The number of club members able to commit themselves has
fallen yet again following the last club meeting. It was felt unfair to put any
club funds at risk by continuing to hope things would improve in this difficult
financial period.’
The January health walk is at The Danish Camp, Willington.
February birthdays are: - 1st Derek, 8th Pat and 9th Helen
.
Maureen. reported on behalf of the sick visitor that both Helen and Maureen are
progressing well with their treatments. In both cases it will take time for
recovery etc.
Our next club meeting is on Friday, 3rd February, when our speaker will be
Sheila Philips with her ‘four legged friend’ who will be telling us about
‘Canine Partners’. The competition is ‘A dog’ – not a live one – a photograph,
ornament etc.
Lunch will be chicken breast wrapped in bacon with croquette potatoes, fresh
carrots and sprouts, followed by trifle. Please ring Joyce on 890216 if you are
unable to attend.
Looking ahead – April is the month the school will be closed for Easter. We are
hoping to take a coach to Milton Keynes for shopping and a theatre trip to see
‘Joseph and His Multi-coloured Dream Coat’ Maybe you would only want to go
shopping and not to the show. More news will be available next month.
The sales table continues to be successful with home baking etc. Shall we try
books and jigsaw puzzles again as well?
The rota for the February meeting: -
Lunch washing up Walter, Marjorie and A.N.Other Tea preparation and washing up
Edie, Margaret and Edna
Flowers Joan Tea towels Maureen V If you can’t attend ask a friend
The Committee have decided that all member’s subscription are to be paid to the
treasurer by the 1st April, otherwise the committee reserve the right to assume
that you no longer wish to retain your membership in the Club.
Members of the committee will be making contact with all associate members to
explain the category of associate membership and to ascertain whether it is
their wish to continue as such or transfer to become a friend. This will assist
in ensuring the class of associate members to those intending to transfer to
membership when the opportunity occurs.
Looking forward to seeing everyone at the next meeting on Friday, 3rd February.
Maureen R. Heads Vice Chairman January 2012
