Summer Growing.
It is great to see our plants growing so well during
the summer holiday. Thanks to Mr Pearce and Mrs Saunders

Make a difference Morning July 2010
A group of enthusiastic parents, staff and
pupils worked very hard to provide our grounds with a summer makeover.
Planters were painted, weeds removed, the pond
cleaned and all plants watered and talked to.

Flower power Garden
areas. July 09
Around the school our lunchtime gardening club
- Flower Power - have several growing areas. In the courtyard their pumpkin
patch is spreading. In the tyres their sunflowers are very tall and in full
bloom.

KS2 growing zone July 09
As you can see from these photos, this new
growing zone has been very successful. The Eagles harvested the salad
crops for their special family lunch and the Puffins also enjoyed eating the
potatoes and the peas!!

Developing our Sensor Garden.
The Kingfishers and the Robins worked together during Eco-week to create
stepping stones. These stepping stones will be placed around the growing areas.

On this page we will
record the development of our School Grounds.
November 2008 The starting point.
All pupils and staff spend time sharing their ideas.
Judy Dimbleby, fro CEES, came to school to help us

February 2009 All of our ideas have been
gathered together into our Grounds Development Plan. Mrs Arbuthnott shared our
Plan with the FOSS Trustees
The school is focusing on developing and enriching the
learning experiences of our children through the use of the facilities we
already have and by enhancing and developing these.
School Grounds
In consultation with Cambridgeshire Environmental Education
Service we have drawn up a plan for the development of the school grounds. In
this process all children were involved and each class added its own ‘wish
list’.
Staff meetings have been focussed on how to incorporate
these and the plan is now finalised (although it is organic so alterations may
be made along the way).
Some works have begun with the Puffins class growing area
being constructed – the children helped lay the bricks for one of the beds and
other classes have commented on this and asked when their ideas will start to be
included!
The Swifts class chose a range of features for their
garden, but the main feature – and the highlight for the whole project – is a
castle which links in with their work on ‘Homes’. See attached sheet.
Two TAs have begun a lunchtime gardening club involving
children from all classes and they have secured tractor tyres, car tyres and
other containers for a ‘shape’ growing area.
The Eagles have requested a geology garden with rocks from
different periods and areas being included to be sited near ‘Bug city’ – an area
designed to encourage minibeasts through the use of air bricks, planting and a
log pile.
A totem pole jungle is also planned to link in with a
sensory walk which will proceed over a bridge requested by the Kestrels.
