The Fruity Tooties

At Spaldwick School we have a special team of pupils who make up our healthy eating team - The Fruity Tooties. They organise competitions and make sure we all try and eat healthily.

Our new team of Fruity Tooties has just been nominated and as their first task made table decorations for our firework lunch.

Previous groups have:

Won a prize to visit a pig farm!

They also won a competition to produce a poster to show foods produced locally, they worked hard on this and used lots of corn and wheat!

We have had the Spaldwick Super Soup competition for two year now, this was won the first year by Robert, his soup was made by every pupil in the school and served at the Harvest lunch. This year Tom in Puffins won with his soup, Grandma Smith's Carrot Soup. It was delicious!

In 2008 Angel's soup won a prize in the Food from the farm competition at Peterborough showground, a professional chef made her soup!

This year (2009) Kara, Angel's sister was highly commended at the same competition, soup must be a family tradition!

Fruity Tooties help with decorations for special lunches and look after special guests on the Golden Roost table.

Pupils selected to sit on the Golden Roost table are pupils who impressed the Teachers, Lunchtime staff or pupils with their good manners and behaviour.

The Golden Roost Nominations Feb 2009 were made by the teachers, these pupils were served by the Fruity Tooties.

The new Spring table decorations chosen by the Fruity Tooties and admired by Robins.

And these are the Fruity Tooties!

The Fruity Tooties grew potatoes for a competition then they weighed them and ate them! They were delicious!

New nutritional standards for school lunches and other school food and drink

On 19 May 2006, the Secretary of State announced a suite of new nutritional standards for school lunches, as well as food and drink served at other times of the day.

These standards combine the recommendations of the School Meals Review Panel (SMRP) and the SFT (School Food Trust).

The SFT is an independent organisation that provides support to head teachers, governors, school cooks, Local Authorities and catering providers in implementing the new standards. They will also work closely with healthy schools coordinators.
