What will this mean for me and my child?

The Modern Foreign Languages is a very exciting prospect for our children.  The  KS1children will be looking at basic spoken French in year, and will experience some aspects of the culture of France through the language, traditions and food! In KS2 we are participating in the HunttSNet Language Awareness project. This will see Y3/4 pupils experiencing a wider look at a country, along with a study of the language. Y5/6 will be introduced to a different language each  half term, starting with Japanese!! The Y5/6 will also investigate aspects of French, German, Spanish, Latin and Polish

All other aspects of PE, PSHE and RE will continue within classes with the children’s class teacher to provide the full entitlement.

For the PPA sessions, KS2 children eed to come to school already in their PE kits, this allows a prompter start to their busy morning. At the end of the morning, KS2 pupils change inot their school uniform. You may decide to have an extra PE kit, to enable one kit to stay at school for the  PE sessions on other days.

All ages of children will be going outside in all but the most extreme conditions, they will need the following PE kit, in addition to their inside kit

ü       long tracksuit trousers in black or navy

ü       tracksuit top in black or navy

ü       trainers (plimsolls are not advised for outdoor activities)

ü       a change of socks

ü       a named water bottle

ü       a plastic bag for muddy or wet trainers

Can we remind parents that club football kits or holiday style beach clothing is not acceptable for school, much as the children enjoy wearing them!  Thank you. Also can we remind parents to name all PE kit please?

KS1 children will be changing for their outside PE session prior to lunchtime to ensure a swift start to the afternoon activities.  We have already practised doing this earlier this term…and we are all prepared!

What does Workforce Remodelling mean?

A National Agreement was signed by most of the staff associations and trade unions representing school staff, the Government and local authorities.   The Agreement aims to raise standards in schools by making sure that teachers are able to use their time to focus on what they do best:  delivering high quality teaching and learning.

The main aim is to improve standards in all schools.  It recognises that, to be successful, we need to recruit, train and retain the best teachers and support staff, making the best possible use of their skills, talents and commitment.

We have to follow this Agreement partly because we have a legal obligation to do so, but more importantly, however, we believe we can improve the quality of teaching and learning for all children by applying the Agreement in our school.

What does it mean in practice for my child?

One of the good things about the National Agreement is that it recognises every school is different and gives us a good deal of flexibility in how we implement it.  In our school, staff and governors will continue to work hard to ensure we give your child the best possible support.

How will I see any difference in school?

Our team of teaching assistants already work hard with individual children or with groups and this will not change.

However, for those teaching assistants who have received additional training, or already have the right range of experience, they may also work with the whole class to deliver parts of the curriculum, under the guidance of their teacher.

Our team will always be directed and supervised appropriately and the class teacher will always remain in overall charge of your child’s education.

……and finally

Whatever developments or changes take place in our school, please be assured that we will be undertaking careful monitoring and evaluation of each subject, and we will be keeping all subjects under regular review.  All the changes will be undertaken with the intention of raising standards for all the children in our care.

If you have any queries about the changes referred to in this letter, please don’t hesitate to speak to any member of the Change Team.
