What a fabulous day for our first Welly Wednesday! We had a very chilly but brilliant walk around the Spaldwick countryside and spotted mole hills, paw prints, a fox, rabbit and two badgers, as well as pigs, chickens and two very friendly dogs! Your Robin will tell you all about it 🙂 We also worked in the school grounds and looked for leaves to create works of art.
The children worked on the ‘ear’ sound in phonics and tomorrow we’ll work on ‘air’.
Your children were very excited when they left the classroom this afternoon and hopefully they’ll have told you about our exciting new plans in the Robins! Each Wednesday morning we’ll be taking our learning outside the classroom. This will start tomorrow and your child will need a warm coat, gloves, hat and scarf etc as we’ll be going for our first ‘Welly walk’ through the countryside. There will be a large team of staff and supporting adults coming along with us so look out for photos on the web! Don’t worry, we’ll be back in school for lunch;-)
The Robins have had a busy day working on adding activities inside the classroom and outside. We have worked on the ‘oi’ sound – we’ve practised reading and writing words containing this sound and tomorrow we’ll work on the ‘ear’ trigraph. The children have worked together on some physical activities outside and with the construction equipment.
The Robins had a lovely time telling us all about their half term holidays today – they were so busy! They wrote about their holidays, remembering to really listen to the sounds in words and to use finger spaces. They began to paint self portraits and worked with the small world equipment. In PE we worked on balance and co-ordination and all the children did really well. Our sound was ‘ow’ in phonics today, and tomorrow it’s ‘oi’ as in ‘soil’.
We have been reading a Mr Majeika story in class so thought that would be the focus for our day.
If the Blackbirds would like to dress up they can come as Mr Majeika, a magician or a mad scientist or one of the pupils.
It will be a fun science and DT day.
On Monday 29th February the Robins will spend LEAP day working on activities linked to ‘The Jolly Postman’ by Janet and Allen Ahlberg. The children are invited to dress up as a character from the story and be ready for lots of fun! Lots of well-known stories and nursery rhymes are represented in the book so hopefully the Robins (and you!) will be able to choose a costume 🙂
Blackbirds will be designing and painting their own T-shirt this half term, so will need a plain white T-shirt in school by March 14th. If you would like me to order one for your child please send in £2.50.
Today the Robins practised reading words containing the ‘or’ digraph and tomorrow we’ll work on the ‘ur’ sound.
The children had a brilliant PE session when they showed how much their throwing and catching skills have developed; they were great! We watched a video clip on how Chinese children prepare for Chinese New Year and made spring rolls, the children began a class dragon sculpture and later they practised their Chinese dragon dances and learned a Chinese New Year song.
The children also worked on number bonds to 10 and practised adding two numbers together to make a total of 10 and they used their phonic skills to complete a labelling activity.
Blackbirds need to look over all the spellings this half term for a test after the holiday
Blackbirds have been working hard to move to their next treat on the 100 square
So this Friday we are having ‘story time in pyjamas’
your blackbird can bring:
PJ’s , onesie or dressing gown to change into
a favourite book
slippers and a blanket if they can carry it!
