This is our Reception Class

Mrs Hannah Holmes is the Explorers' class teacher. She is supported by, Mrs Clare Hindmarsh and Mrs Alice Hinchliffe.

Below is some helpful information about Explorers class. 

This term our PE day is Monday and our Forest School day is Tuesday. We ask that children come to school in their PE kits and stay in them all day on Monday and they bring outdoor clothing to change into on Tuesday. The children have opportunities for physical activity in our outdoor area every day.

There’s no bad weather in Explorers, only bad clothing! Please could you ensure your child has a pair of wellies in school at all times. We do have spares.

Please send your child to school with a named water bottle.

Autumn 1

Theme - Happy to be me

English - In Reception we use drawing club to open up the world of tales and story to children. Here are our stories for this term.

Maths - We follow the White Rose sequence of learning. Term 1 covers numbers 1,2 and 3 and basic shapes

Autumn 2

Theme - This term we have two themes. Our first is a History unit, Jurassic Park. We will be learning about the Stone Age and dinosaurs

Our second theme is The spirit of Christmas.

English - Below are our drawing club stories for this term.

Maths - We will continue to learn about numbers to 5 and more basic shapes.

Spring 1

Theme - Our topic, Come Fly with Me will give us a chance to learn about other parts of the world and their culture.

English - These are our drawing club stories for the term.

Maths - We will learn about numbers to 8 and begin to look at mass and capacity.

Spring 2

Theme - This term in our topic No Place Like Home, we will learn about where we live before thinking about different habitats.

English - Drawing club

Maths - We will learn about numbers to 10 and 3D shapes.

Summer 1

Theme - This term we will do two topics, we will start with Under the Sea before moving on to Help is at Hand where we will learn about people who help us.

Summer 2

Theme - We will finish our year with a topic called What on Earth. We will learn about looking after things and showing respect for our world.

Homework

Reading: Please spend 5 minutes a day reading with your child - it makes such a big difference. We will change our library books on a Wednesday.
