The football match
On Wednesday March the 1st Hugh, Evan, Jonty, Jamie, William, Rhys, Oscar, Tommy Mu, Dylan, Quinn and Jack played in a football match against Buckden. The rules were: 20 minutes each half, nine a side, seven a side goals and five minutes each half in extra time. The starting nine was Hugh, Jonty, William, Jamie, Dylan, Jack, Rhys, Quinn and Oscar. Ten minutes into the game it was still 0-0 Mrs Dean decided to make a substitute, this was Evan for Oscar. Evan was now upfront with Jonty, we had plenty of chances but found it hard to get them on target in the small goals. Half time was approaching quickly and Mrs Dean was eager to get a goal.
The second half was pretty much the same as there were no goals but two opposition players shoved Dylan to the floor in the box. We looked at the referee but there was no signal for the penalty. Time past quickly and now it was full time. It went to extra time but still no goals were scored, the game was tense. The referee called for five players from each side to step up to the spot, Buckden got first penalty which was saved by William. Jamie walked forwards towards the box and took his penalty, he scored. A few penalties later the score was 3-2 to Spaldwick we had won. What an amazing game.
Yet another fantastic win for Spaldwick.
On Thursday I went to a netball tournament with some other Eagles and Puffins. It was at Hartford school, when we arrived we went to the school playground it was ten minutes till are first game. The bell ringed and it was time for us to play and it was against the other Spaldwick team. The game ended and I scored three goals and Will had assisted them all. Me and Will celebrated because we had won are first game. But we also said well done to are opponents. We had to wait another ten minutes till are next game so we watched the others play. In are second game we played another team it harder than the first game but we still managed to win. It was are final game and are team were determined to win. I stood at the side line and watched. After a minute of the game beginning Evan scored. It was halfway through the game and we were three nil up. It was the end of the game and the score was three all.
One day I was at school at lunch time, I had my lunch early and then I went with Isy to look at the chickens then we went in to the library and we got our stuff. At one we gathered our bags up and we went to get collected up by our parents, my dad came and picked me up . He took me to Hartford Junior School .When we got there there were loads of children ready to play netball.
We left school at 9am on the coach. When we arrived at Brampton racecourse we found a spot to put our stuff, then got our tags on and started to warm up. We did stretches, jogging and then practiced with the rugby ball.
Our first match was against Great Staughton, we won 10-0!!! Our second match was immediately after this against Wyton, we won 8-2! We then had time for a break, which is when Mrs Miles handed out chocolate and sweets to keep our energy up. After this our third match was against Brington, we won 6-2! The whole team felt extremely excited and proud. We had trained and worked so hard together to achieve great results.
At this point we knew we’d be through to the finals to play for either 1st or 2nd place. We were all very nervous but ready for it. They announced we’d be playing the winners from pool 1, which was Holywell, in our final match of the day. The game was tense, but we pushed on tagging as much as we could and running as fast as we could once we had possession of the ball. Our great team work paid off and we won 6-4! We were overjoyed! The whole team jumped up and down, cheering and hugging one another! Our parents and Mrs Miles were also cheering and jumping up and down. We shook hands with our opponents and congratulated them on a close match.
We then made our way over to the B team who had also won their group. Once again we all cheered, jumping up and down and high fiving everyone. We had such a sense of achievement! The man from the Hunts Post came over to take our photos. After this we sat down ready for the presentations. When our school was called we all, including our parents, Mrs Miles and Mrs Dean, cheered really loudly. Jamie and Evan, the team captains, went up to collect our certificates and most importantly our TWO TROPHIES!!!
