Kingfishers weekly update…

Hello!

This week we continued our learning of ‘Animals including Humans’ and looked at environmental changes and the direct effect of humans on animals becoming endangered and extinct. We explored things such as urbanisation, deforestation, invasive species, natural disasters and global warming.  In Literacy we began to look at newspapers including headlines, straplines and introductions  and will be carrying on this work next week, writing our own articles. Finally, in maths we began our work on the ‘four operations’ by looking at division. We will spend next week looking at addition and subtraction using a formal written method.

Reminders:

There will be no spellings for the rest of term, the children have completed the yearly circuit of spellings using the ‘rising stars’ scheme.

Homework will be set in purple books: the children need to write a persuasive letter/persuasive poster to prevent global warming. They need to explain what global warming is, the effect it has on our planet and what we can do to stop it.

Our PE days are Tuesday (come to school in PE kit) and Friday with Mrs Dean. Two minute chats this week will be on Thursday with Sophia, Bradley, Aisla and Andrew presenting.

Enjoy the weekend,

Mr Piper (07.07.17)

Finally, in maths we continued our work on Number and Place value including use of fractions and percentages.

Hello!

This week we continued our learning of ‘Animals including Humans’ and investigated how animals adapt to their surroundings by designing our own animal. This then moved on to work on food chains which will continue into next week. In Literacy we began writing our persuasive letters on whether Zoos are good or bad – some fantastic ideas and opinions have been expressed so well done Kingfishers! Finally, in maths we have been looking at ordering decimals and rounding numbers to their nearest whole numbers, tens and hundreds.

Homework has been set in Purple books and so they need to be handed in next Friday. The homework was given to the children on Wednesday and includes two tasks. Task 2 involves the children looking at a range of food packaging and discovering what goes into our foods.

Kingfishers field walk…

Hello!

The Kingfishers will be going on a walk around the fields tomorrow at 10.00 am to explore the local habitat as part of our ‘Animals including Humans’ science topic. We aim to leave at 10 so that we should be back at break time. However, just in case we are not I would recommend that children bring their own snacks to school as well as sun hats and sun cream.

I will remind all the Kingfishers about our walk at the end of today,

Thanks,

Mr Piper

Welcome back Kingfishers!

Hello!

Firstly welcome back after the Easter break. I hope you had lots of time to relax, but more importantly eat lots of chocolate!

This week we have begun our ‘Local History’ topic and have investigated Ely Cathedral in preparation for next weeks visit. We used Google earth to have a look at the cathedral and surrounding grounds and spent Friday morning collecting a range of facts about the Cathedral on the iPads. In Literacy we began to look at persuasive leaflets and the features used attract customers. This will carry on until next week where we will design our very own leaflets based on an exciting attraction.  Sadly we only had time for one maths lesson this week and so recapped how to add and subtract using columns.

Reminders:

Spellings will be tested on Monday and new spellings handed out the same day.

There will be no homework this week but be assured that next weeks homework will be doubly hard to make up for lost time.

Also, please remember that our PE days are Tuesday (come to school in PE kit) and Friday!

Enjoy the weekend,

Mr Piper (21/04/17)
