Robins’ Tuesday

The Robins had a lovely first day back today; we focused on ‘Meg and Mog’ stories to link in with Hallowe’en and they enjoyed painting Meg, reading about her spells that go wrong and writing about the story.  We practised our hand control by decorating a pumpkin and the children had their first ICT session with Mrs Field which they really enjoyed!

In book bags tonight you’ll find your Robin’s sound book.  We’re beginning our work on Phase 2 sounds and ‘s’ is our first.  Please could your child draw pictures of things that begin with ‘s’ – if you’re worried we won’t know what they are please annotate them!  We’ll learn 4 new sounds every week and consolidate on Fridays (apart from this week) and for additional information on how to pronounce the sounds please see the Robins page which has a video clip.

PGL news!

A Thursday evening room inspection was carried out by Miss Prior!  It’s breakfast time now and then the children will be packing before they begin their morning activities.

Robins’ Thursday

The Robins have continued their work on colour today and have drawn pictures and written captions about the changes we see in Autumn.  They have made a favourite colours graph, mixed paint colours to see what happens and begun some weaving using Elmer coloured paper!  You might be able to see their Elmer faces on the classroom window too.

The children have been working on rhyme this week and might tell you about our ‘Silly Soup’ song!

Robins’ Tuesday

The Robins have had a great day today and we’ve been really pleased with how they’ve tried so hard.  They have looked at Autumn objects and talked about their features, they’ve completed our big Elmer who’s now on the classroom wall and they have all finished their writing and pattern work.  The children have been using the Numicon outside to make number lines and they have loved using the glittery shapes to make a ‘disco’!

We have sent PE kits home today – these won’t be needed again before we return from half term.

It’s nearly half term Swifts!

WOW! What a brilliant first half term we have had Swifts! You have all worked incredibly hard! I hope you all have lots of rest over half term and come back nice and refreshed!

Mrs Field has kindly asked if the Swifts could practise logging in and out of Mathletics and Purple Mash independently over half term. This will make the Swifts learning time in our ICT sessions longer!

One last thing!! On THURSDAY (19th October) the Swifts are going to go on a Harvest Welly Walk! Please can you make sure your child brings in their wellies and a coat on Thursday. 🙂

Thank you!

Miss Allan

Robins’ Monday

Today the Robins began a new mini topic on colour to tie in with autumn, harvest and we also read the story of Elmer the elephant.  The children have almost completed a large scale art project which we’ll put up in the classroom and they drew pictures of elephants and wrote captions.  They sorted compare bears and made patterns with these too.

In PE this afternoon we continued our work with the apparatus and we played a new traffic light game; I’m sure your Robin will be pleased to show you!

I hope you enjoy reading ‘Bumblebear’ with your child – it’s  lovely story with so much to talk about in the pictures 🙂

I’ll be sending PE kits home tomorrow – please check that your child’s kit still has their names in and that the items are theirs!  I checked today and returned some pieces to other children but we’re still looking for a pair of shorts which have disappeared.

Red Kites busy week!

13 October 2017 16:05
Red Kites have had a busy but fabulous week! We have been recapping on 3D shapes and their properties, looking at polygons with perpendicular and parallel lines and the different types of prisms there are. In literacy we have carried on with our UFO theme and have been writing stories about space and diary entries from an alien visiting Earth, they have been fantastic. Homework has been set today and doesn’t have to be handed in until after half term, it is to make a Victorian toy, more details in your child’s bag.
The year 5’s have been given a ‘final arrangements’ letter for PGL and a luggage tag, they are all very excited!
Enjoy the lovely weather, see you all on Monday, Mrs Roberts
