Welcome to the Eagles' Class Page
This half-term we have a Geography focus: Global Warning.
Our focus is on sustainability and eco literacy. This project-based theme involves applying learning about the global environmental issues of waste and pollution by creating a board game, which is both educational and fun. Eagles will work in groups to research, design and produce a board game, which will be presented and demonstrated to the class.
Our PE days are Monday and Wednesday.
In maths, we will be revisiting a range of different knowledge and skills: number and place value, the four operations, fractions, decimals and percentages. We will be recapping different mental and written methods as well as unpicking problems to identify key words and steps. A key focus throughout all of our maths is on reasoning and the ability to explain thinking clearly.
In writing, we will be writing some short narratives including the retelling the story of 'Alma', a short animated film. After this, we will also be creating a newspaper report linked to our theme. Alongside our writing genres, we will be revisiting some key grammar from throughout the year, including key terminology and punctuation.
In Reading, we are looking at a range of shorter texts, both fiction and non-fiction, liked to our theme of global warming. For each text, we unpick the vocabulary by using a range of techniques: reading on, reading back, finding a root word and also inputting an alternative word. A key skill we are developing is how to summarise concisely and regularly. We do this by choosing one or two words to record next to each paragraph to identify the key theme within it. We are continuing to develop how we explain the evidence from the text to ensure we to give clear justifications.
Eagles are expected to read and record 5 home reads a week, complete their Mathletics work each week and complete their paper homework. Homework is handed out and due in on a Thursday and Reading Records are checked on a Friday.
